Where am I now? Exactly. I am here, in The Now. Where is The now? It is at the intersection; the inflection; the crossroads (The 61 and The 49); it is where choices are made; it is at the point of decision making.
Making a choice is a luxury; a challenge; a reward; a responsibility; an obligation; it results in a decision we make that we need to own up to no matter the outcome – good or bad.
The Now isn’t worried about the past. Rather it is influenced by it, and uses it to make decisions that will effect future now’s. That’s where I am at … Now. A lot of what gets shared here will be about where I am now. It’s like Neil Young says:
“It’s what I’m doing now, man, right now, that matters. Not yesterday, or the day before that, but now. Right now.”
Wow. Robert Plant & TheBand of Joy was a true music experience. My kinda music. Rich, real and rowdy…but hey, I’m a little bit of country and a little bit of Rock & Roll. Cool Assed covers: “Harm’s Swift Way” – Townes Van Zandt, “House of Cards” – Richard Thompson. The song that got everyone going:”Tall Cool One”…not my fave of the night, but good. All you Zep fans, he played: Misty Mountain Hop, Houses of the Holy (sick arrangement…countrified), Gallows Pole (felt like it should have been played in the back of a covered wagon…so damn good) and a rockabilly and raucous Rock and Roll that turned into a massive foot-stomper/hard=charger.Plant was damn good on the vox…laughing, enjoying himself, talked between almost every song, too. At one point he fell into the background and let others take over the lead vox. He played harp and sang back-up almost behind the drum kit. He was loving watching them do their thing.Buddy Miller was insanely good on the guitar and mandolin. Darren Scott played beautiful pedal steel…I’m as sucker for pedal steel…all night long. Nancy Griffin was superb. This all american Nashville’ifed band was outstanding. If you have the chance…go see them! I was 5ft away dead center and wide-eyed the entire time.http://goo.gl/Zloa
Sounds like an awesome show with an interesting crowd. I wish I had seen them when they came through the states. He has pulled together a band of A listers. Who have the chops but are in it for the music, not the showmanship.Darrell’s new record Crooked Road is a gem: http://amzn.to/az9WfjAnd of course Buddy Miller is an American treasure.Looking forward to this record release too.
@OzzyBeef Luke, I tried to find that one on Spotify and iTunes. Not available in the UK. I did find ‘The Invisible Man’ & ‘Modern Hymns” on Spotify. I’m going to spin those & get on ‘Crooked Road’. What do you recommend from Buddy Miller?
I got into Darrell from the record he did with Tim Obrien ‘Real Time’. They play a great show here: http://www.itsgreattobealive.com/?p=59. I have ‘Modern Hymns’ but like ‘Crooked Road’ more.If you get on his email newsletter he sends out live shows that you can stream. All of them different and all really cool.Buddy Miller got a lot of acclaim for ‘Written In Chalk’ but I think I like ‘Buddy and Julie Miller’ more. iTunes says that I have listened to ‘Universal United House of Prayer’ way more. He plays on Emmylou’s brilliant record ‘Spyboy’ too. Here is Buddy playing the Metro in Sydney: http://www.itsgreattobealive.com/?p=337
@OzzyBeef Brilliant. You are tops. I’ve hooked into all links and wills spend Sunday morning listening & making the old lady breakfast and bloody’s. Cheers.
@OzzyBeef BTW: The Metro is a great place for gigs in Sydney. Saw My Morning Jacket & The Holdsteady there
On the Boil: Robert Plant & The Band of Joy’s new album is now streaming on NPR in it’s entirety. http://goo.gl/Wvmj
