Breakfast Club: Too Good...

What a great Sunday morning. Near perfect double-income-no-kids bliss.  We slept in until about 10:00am.  It had been raining all morning and it set the stage for an extended off and on sleep. We put a challenge on Mother Nature as to who could holdout longer, us or the rain; we won.  The Sun hit the balcony and then we hit the road.  Dropped off the dogs to get primped and polished and then we set off for some eats. We thought about a new place, and then decided not to tempt fate.

Two newspapers, two cup of caffeine, two smiling faces...too good.  With the celebration of Record Store Day still ringing in my ears and the night's late feast still in my belly, I took it easy on the brekky.  Went with the old standby...the fruit salad backed with two long blacks. That did the trick...that, plus a few forks of the pancakes from across the table.  The rest of the day was equally satisfying.

Eat when I'm hungry. Drink when I'm dry.  You don't need to eat the lot when you can be happy with less.

Check please.

Two if by sea(plane)...

Took a seaplane out of Sydney yesterday.  It was my wife's birthday and I surprised her with a trip up the coast to Whale Beach where we ate a Jonah's. This had to have been one of the best day excursions we have taken in some time.  The weather didn't cooperate, but no matter...the plane ride meal parade couldn't be rained on even if the skies did open up.

We took off in a little four seater seaplane for a 20 minute awe-inspiring ride north of Sydney.  Sydney beautiful by land and sea, but by air it is a special treat. Even with a grey, rainy backdrop, the city is a spectacular site.  We took off out over the harbour and out through the heads.  Along the way we spied many little beaches, coves and small islands approachable only by boat. It just looked...special.

When we landed in Palm Beach, we hopped the shuttle to Jonah's.  Now, we weren't up as high as in the seaplane, but the view from the cliff side restaurant was almost as stunning.  The views are expansive and spectacular. The trip just kept getting better.  We settled in at our table and had a bottle of sauv blanc put on ice...which was soon to be joined by a gifted bottle of champagne that a friend had arrange as an added surprise (did I mention that it just kept getting better?).

The meal was a perfect compliment to the setting. We shared the beef for two.  It looked like enough for three or four and we thought we'd be taking home half of it for later...no chance. The beef was cooked to perfection (medium rare). We agreed it very well may have been the best we've ever had.

More wine. More champagne. Some desert. Birthday cards. Lots of smiles and lot of love shared.
