The [old] 6149
The old blog: www.the6149.posterous.com
From February 2007 to April 2011 I kept a blog called The 6149. he 6149 was a place for me to tell stories about the music that I love and that has been a high influence on my life. As stated on those pages: I am a Music Fan. I own a turntable. I like to tell stories. I like to listen to music. I like to share music. I love being a music fan. I said goodbye to that blog in July 2011 … well, kind of.
The 6149 has been resurrected and I have imported all past posts from it (formatting issues be damned). Will this 6149 reboot be different than the original? Yes and no. I am still going to talk about music, but I am going to mix in more topics as well. Why this change? I wanted a change of scene (blogging platform) for long-form writing.
I also wanted to try out other services (Tumblr) that were conducive to short-form writing and content sharing a la the new sister site: The 6149 [B Side]. Look for updates on that site in the sidebar on the homepage.
“I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s Farm no more…” - Bob Dylan
Keeping up with a blog is not always easy, especially if you are passionate about doing it and doing it well. My new long/short form approach will make it more fun for me, which means it will be more fun for you.
Starting with the July 5th post and reading in reverse, I promise you that if you pull up a chair, put a six pack of tall boys on ice, spin some vinyl and have a read through the posts, it will be time well spent. There will be brand-spankin’ new 6149 content from that point forward … meet the new blog not the same as the old blog.
“To see life clearly, to live it like a champion, you have to develop your own set of rules” - Hunter S. Thompson
The 6149 followed the “Folk Process”: borrowing freely from others to create something new. I borrowed the songs from the folks and lore associated with them and talked about my experiences with them; it was grand.
The 6149 was a great experience. I evolved as a writer, met a lot of people and shared a lot of great music.
“But me I’m not stopping there, got my own row left to hoe…” - Neil Young
The old 6149 is hereby going into retirement. It will be come an archive for all my stories and opinions and points of view. That doesn’t mean it is not worth visiting.
